We woke early and had a light breakfast, just as good as the day before :-), we had an exciting day ahead of us biking the Batur trail. Together with a nice Dutch couple, Rianne and Fabian, we were taken to a lovely restaurant and had breakfast with an amazing view over the Karangasem volcano and lake Batur.
After very thoroughly instructions by our guide, Hero (what can go wrong if you have a guide called HERO), we started biking. Fortunately for us most of the trail was downhill but we still had to watch out for holes in the road, cats, dogs, chickens, motorcycles, cars, trucks and rice left out to dry on big plastic covers.
We stopped at a beautiful temple.
Some kids played football; like everywhere it’s very popular among the young.
The sceneries were amazing and it was really nice to see them from a bike 🙂
Hero took us to a local family and explained how they lived and how the houses were set up. The grandparents had a very old house by themselves, parents a little newer and for the children (we guess the oldest son) a very nice brand new house had been built. In the front there was a temple and in the back livestock and close by an old fashioned kitchen.
It was a very nice activity that ended way too fast with a nice lunch at restaurant. We were lucky with the weather as it started to rain just as we sat down to eat.
Back at hotel we defied the rain and jumped in to the pool as fast as we could.
The rest of the day went to exploring Ubud, looking at nice stores and hassling at the market. Greet managed to do really well with the hassling at the market (went from 150K to 100K on a sarong). She also found a lovely handbag.
We both had a little problem walking on the nice sidewalks and looking in the shopping windows at the same time…
We ended the day at a very nice grill restaurant with a couple of mojitos, grilled fish and chicken. It was really good!
